중도가 애국자다 (2022년 2월 13일) - 최영기목사

대통령 선거를 앞두고 국민들은 세 그룹으로 갈립니다. 극우, 극좌, 중도입니다.
극우에 속하는 사람들은 좌파 대통령이 들어서면 북한에 나라를 갖다 바칠 것이라고 생각합니다. 북한이 협상 테이블에 나오고 선언문을 발표한다 해도, 3대에 걸친 북한 김씨 왕조의 적화통일이라는 국시는 절대 바꾸지 않을 것이라는 것은 사실입니다. 그렇다고 좌파 후보가 대통령이 된다고 해서, 나라를 북한에 갖다 바치는 일은 안 생깁니다. 건강한 민주 시민들이 있기 때문입니다.
극좌에 속하는 사람들은 우파 대통령이 들어서면 기득권을 가진 친일파가 판을 칠 것이고 우리 나라를 일본 종속 국가로 만들 것이라고 주장합니다. 그러나 할아버지가 친일파였다고 손자들이 친일파가 되지 않습니다. 우리 젊은이들은 일본을 대등한 경쟁 상대로 생각하지, 우리를 지배했던 두려운 존재나, 미래의 종주국으로 생각하지 않습니다.
이번 선거의 쟁점은 대한민국의 정체성이 아니고, 어떻게 하면 코로나 이후 닥칠 경제 위기에 대처하여 국민들을 잘 살게 해주느냐 입니다.
일반적으로, 우파는 기업 친화적입니다. 그렇기 때문에 우파 대통령이 선출되면, 국제 경쟁력이 신장되고 경제 능력이 강화 되어 국민 전체가 잘 살게 됩니다. 그러나 장기 집권을 하게 되면, 경쟁력이 취약한 계층들은 경제적으로 점점 더 뒤쳐져서, 빈부격차가 심화되고, 사회불안이 조성됩니다.
좌파는 사회평등에 관심이 많습니다. 그렇기 때문에 좌파 대통령이 선출되면, 사회적 약자들의 권익이 신장되고 경제적인 혜택을 더 누리게 됩니다. 그러나 장기 집권을 하게 되면 퍼주기 정책과 과도한 규제로 인하여 유능한 사람들의 노동 욕구를 감소시켜 국제 경쟁력이 저하되고, 국가 경제가 쇠락합니다.
그렇기 때문에 좌파이건 우파이건 장기 집권을 방지하고, 번갈아 정권을 잡도록 하는 것이 국민들에게는 최선의 선택이라고 생각합니다.
군사 정권이 종식 된 후, 우파도 좌파도 장기 집권을 못했습니다. 중도파들 때문입니다. 양 후보 지지율이 팽팽하게 맞섰을 때 이들의 표가 선거 결과를 결정했고, 정권 교체를 가져왔습니다. 이들이 1당 독재를 방지한 진정한 애국자들입니다.
좌파 후보에게 한 번도 투표해본 적이 없는 우파, 우파 후보에게 한 번도 투표해본 적이 없는 좌파는, 자신이 나라와 국민을 더 사랑하는지, 아니면 정치를 더 사랑하는지, 진지한 자기 성찰이 필요하다고 생각합니다. 그리고 그 사람이 크리스천이라면 자신이 예수님을 더 사랑하는지, 이념을 더 사랑하는지 정직한 자가진단을 해보아야 한다고 생각합니다.

- The Moderates Are True Patriots -
The presidential election will take place this March in Korea. Voters are divided into three groups - the extreme rightists, the extreme leftists, and the moderates. Both extremists insist they are true patriots and accuse the others of being traitors. But in my opinion, the true patriots are the moderates.
The rightists are generally anti-North Korea, and the leftists are anti-Japan. Both parties insist that the other candidate will sell out to the country they oppose if elected. But this is just a scare tactic to drive voters to vote for their candidate. In my opinion, the national identity is not what’s at stake in this election but the future economy of the country, which is in peril due to the Covid pandemic.
The rightists are usually pro-business. If their candidate is elected, he will encourage business, improving the national economy to the benefit of all people. But if they stay in power too long, the chasm between those who have and those who have not widens, resulting in social unrest.
The leftists generally favor socialist policies. If the president they support is elected, he will expand the welfare system, and many underprivileged people will benefit. But their policies may hinder entrepreneurs, causing the country to lose competitiveness in the global market and making the country poorer.
So the best choice for people seems to be preventing either party from staying in power too long and letting different parties try different things.
This is exactly what has happened in Korea in recent years. No political party stayed in power longer than 10 years. I think the credit must go to the moderates. All past elections have been very close, so this group has been determining the outcome and preventing one party from dominating presidential elections. They are the true patriots.
